Changes to CofC COVID-19 Guidelines, Effective Feb. 28, 2022

By | February 21, 2022

The College of Charleston’s COVID-19 Leadership Team sent the following update to the campus community on Monday, Jan. 21, 2022.

Dear Campus Community,

In a message to campus on February 11, President Hsu announced that the College had been exploring options to begin easing and/or lifting many of the COVID-19 restrictions that are currently in place on campus.

Based on an extensive review of the latest data on virus spread as well as adjustments being made by other institutions and governments, the College will implement the following campus guidelines, effective Monday, February 28, 2022:

  • Face masks will not be required for students during physical activities, performances or rehearsals indoors.

  • Face masks are strongly encouraged but are not required inside other areas of campus facilities, such as hallways, offices, lobbies and common areas.

  • Face masks will continue to be required for large, non-academic indoor gatherings of more than 150 people.

  • Faculty and staff members may request that others wear face masks when visiting their private offices and/or workspaces. Signs will be made available on the Back on the Bricks website for campus members to print and post at their private offices/workspaces requesting that others wear a face mask when in that space.

  • Any member of the campus community or visitor is free to wear a face mask anywhere on campus for any reason. Please be respectful of others regarding individual preferences on face masks.

  • The capacity limit on non-academic gatherings will revert to the fire-code capacity of the space.

  • The College’s COVID-19 Dashboard will continue to be updated daily, but the weekly COVID-19 case update sent to the campus community every Wednesday will be paused.

  • Capacity limits in Campus Recreation facilities will be lifted.

  • The current residence hall visitation policy to not allow non-CofC visitors will remain in effect at this time.

The College will continue to evaluate its guidelines and make adjustments based on the latest data and recommendations from public health officials. Questions about these updated guidelines can be sent to covid19@cofc.edu.

Sincerely,

CofC COVID-19 Leadership Team
