As the College of Charleston looks forward to welcoming incoming students and their families this week, we are mindful of the weather forecast for the Charleston area.
The College of Charleston’s Emergency Management team continues to monitor the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast.
NWS has issued a Heat Advisory, with heat index values (or “feels like” temperature) of up to 110 degrees expected today.
These conditions are likely to extend into Wednesday, Aug. 12, and later this week.
There is also a possibility of severe weather, including thunderstorms that could produce strong, damaging wind.
Safety is our top priority.
While move-in operations are continuing as planned, we offer the following tips and information:
- Dress in light clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- If you develop heat-related symptoms, call 911 and/or ask a staff member or Public Safety personnel for assistance.
If severe storms develop, move-in operations will be paused and those impacted will be directed to move indoors for safety.
Continue to monitor your email for updates, especially as you approach your move-in appointment time.
