Dear Campus Community,
The College of Charleston’s Emergency Management team is closely monitoring two weather disturbances in the Atlantic, Hurricane Humberto and another developing storm.
At this time, the College of Charleston remains on a normal operations schedule.
Heavy rainfall unassociated with the tropical systems is possible starting on Saturday. High tide on Saturday is 12:11 p.m. and is predicted at 5 feet 9 inches. While the tide is not extreme, Charleston is prone to flooding. Rainfall can cause roadway flooding if it coincides with high tide.
To prepare for possible impacts from the storm which could start early next week, students, faculty and staff today (Friday) should bring class and/or work materials and equipment with them this weekend in the event adjustments are made to class and work modes. For employees, regarding resources on securing technology equipment, please visit the Information Technology Hurricane Preparedness Checklist on the Hub.
If the weather forces a closure of campus, the College will prioritize maintaining academic and work continuity in a remote/virtual environment to the extent possible. Residence halls and necessary support services will continue to be provided. For general information about online learning during a campus closure, please refer to the Online Learning During Campus Closure webpage.
Any adjustments to schedules and/or work modes will be communicated through the Cougar Alert emergency notification system and at emergency.charleston.edu.
Essential services such as Public Safety and Facilities Management will remain operational for the duration of the storm.
The College’s Emergency Management Team remains in regular contact with local, county and state agencies. Please stay tuned to local news and monitor the latest updates from the National Weather Service. The city’s TideEye app is a valuable resource for tracking tide levels and road closures due to flooding.
FOOD SERVICES
If campus is officially closed, Dining Services will continue to provide food options for students.
