The College continues to monitor the weather conditions and, as of 3:30 p.m., October 1, the College is still operating on its normal business schedule.
Because of the current heavy rains (actually a different weather system unrelated to Hurricane Joaquin), the City of Charleston has closed several streets. Please monitor local media for the latest road closures.
According to the National Weather Service, the Charleston area will be under a flash flood watch until Saturday evening, October 3.
Due to these weather conditions and possible flooding in parts of the Lowcountry over the next couple of days, please keep the following safety tips in mind (as provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration):
1. Do not drive into a flooded area. It takes only 2 feet of water to float away most cars.
2. Do not walk through a flooded area. It takes only 6 inches of fast-moving water to sweep a person off his/her feet.
Updates regarding campus closures and/or delays will be communicated through the College’s emergency notification system and emergency.cofc.edu.
