President Andrew T. Hsu sent the following message to the campus community on Monday, March 8, 2021:
Dear Campus Community,
On Friday evening, March 5, 2021, Governor Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2021-12, which directs “all state agencies to immediately expedite the transition back to normal operations” by March 15. The South Carolina Department of Administration further instructed: “All human resources directors shall submit … a plan to expeditiously return all employees and staff, including non-essential employees and staff, to the workplace full time.”
This plan must be submitted to the State for review and approval by noon on Wednesday, March 10. The governor’s order allows for state agencies to propose modified, or phased, plans that would extend the return of employees to campus over a period time, beyond March 15. Based on that plan, College leaders, such as division leads, will work with supervisors within their respective teams on specific employees’ schedules and timing for return.
What does this mean for the College of Charleston?
- First and foremost, health and safety remain our university’s top priority.
- There will be no adjustments to spring class calendar or modalities.
- Face coverings will still be required while on campus.
In order to comply with the governor’s directives, the College’s leadership team is compiling a plan for the safe return to in-person work (Phase 3) as quickly as possible and will coordinate with the Department of Administration as instructed.
In the meantime, the College still encourages that throughout the spring semester, as much as possible, meetings should be held using conference calls, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other available electronic resources and that we, as a campus community, continue to practice wise COVID-19 behavior.
The College will continue to provide timely information as it is available and encourages all employees to visit the College’s Back on the Bricks website for updates.
Thank you for your continued effort on behalf of the College of Charleston!
Sincerely,
Andrew
Andrew T. Hsu, Ph.D.
