Update for Hurricane Florence (Sunday, September 9, 2018)

By | September 9, 2018
Dear Students and Employees,

The College of Charleston’s Emergency Management Team and Senior Staff continue to closely monitor the track of Hurricane Florence and its potential impact to the College and state of South Carolina.

The National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service have recommended residents of coastal South Carolina to continue their storm preparations, but have also reminded everyone that the track and strength of this storm remain uncertain. At this time, it is too early to determine where along the U.S. East Coast landfall is possible. The latest tracking shows a slightly northward path emerging. But please keep in mind that the storm is still several days out and may alter its path again.
Please Note: At this time, College emergency management or state officials are not stating that an evacuation is necessary or required just yet. The College remains on its normal operating schedule.

College officials will provide timely updates on any changes or actions that the campus community must take. As always, our commitment to you is to make sure that we, as a campus community, all remain safe through preparation, communication and timely information and instruction.

Since this is the start of a typically active weather period historically, students, faculty and staff should be having conversations with roommates, friends and family members about what you would do if an evacuation were to be ordered this week.
