Dear Campus Community,
The College of Charleston Emergency Management Team continues to monitor Tropical Storm Ian and work with state and local partners regarding its possible impact to the Charleston area and our campus. The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning for Charleston County. A Hurricane Warning means hurricane-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.
Ian is expected to make landfall along the South Carolina coast on Friday, Sept. 30. Please heed all warnings and closely monitor local weather conditions.
Students in campus residence halls should be prepared to remain indoors as weather conditions worsen into Thursday evening and especially early Friday. Residential students are being reminded by Campus Housing via email to pick up Grab and Go meals today. Students may also visit the Cougar Food Pantry in the Stern Center (Glebe Street entrance) until 3 p.m. Thursday to pick-up provisions.
Students planning to leave campus need to do so now before weather conditions begin to deteriorate later Thursday. It will not be safe to travel or to be outside as the storm’s impacts begin to reach the Charleston area this evening.
Essential staff remain on campus to support students and respond to any emergencies. For emergencies, dial 911. CofC Public Safety dispatch can be reached at 843-953-5609 for non-emergencies.
We will continue to update campus as needed over the next 48 hours regarding our response to the storm.
