Dear Campus Community,
The College of Charleston will resume normal business operations beginning on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024. While campus will be open, employees, in coordination with their direct supervisors, are permitted to work remotely where possible. Employees dealing with storm-related issues should coordinate with their supervisors about adjusted work hours, leave, and/or remote work for Thursday. Supervisors are urged to be flexible in accommodating employees’ work modes and schedules.
This reopening of campus aligns with Charleston County government’s operating plans for Thursday. As a state agency, the College is directed to follow the county’s lead on any closures/re-openings.
While we feel it is safe to resume normal campus operations, a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect along South Carolina’s entire coast. Tropical Storm Debby will continue to have impacts in the area for the next 24-36 hours. Employees should monitor local and national weather forecasts. Some local roads remain closed due to flooding. The latest road closures can be tracked at gis.charleston-sc.gov/road-closures-regional/. CARTA has resumed normal bus service and plans to run routes as regularly scheduled, with the exception of Rt. 203. Check ridecarta.com or RideCARTA on social media for the latest updates.
The College’s Facilities Management team is conducting post-storm assessments, but overall campus fared well aside from minor water intrusion in some buildings.
For emergencies on or off campus, dial 911. To contact CofC Public Safety for non-emergencies, call 843.953.5609. Please report any facilities-related issues through the work order system and note TS Debby on the request.
Sincerely,
CofC Emergency Management Team
