The College of Charleston will suspend all non-essential operations beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, due to severe weather conditions expected from Tropical Storm Isaias.
Employees, including student workers, who are working from home as part of the modified Phase 2 of the Return to Work on Campus plan, should continue to work remotely today to the extent possible. Essential employees should check with their supervisors regarding any adjustments to work schedules for Monday. Facilities Management and Public Safety teams will maintain a limited physical presence on campus throughout the storm.
At this time, the College expects to resume operations at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Any adjustments to College operations for Tuesday, Aug. 4, will be communicated through the College’s Cougar Alert system and posted on emergency.cofc.edu.
New Student and Family Orientation sessions scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will continue to take place virtually as planned.
The Charleston area remains under a tropical storm warning, with tropical storm force winds (39 – 73 mph), significant rainfall, storm surge and coastal flooding expected for the Charleston area beginning early Monday afternoon and into Monday night.
The storm is expected to produce up 3 to 6 inches of rain, which if combined with a high tide at 9 p.m. Monday could produce major coastal flooding. Storm surge of 2 to 4 feet is also possible. Emergency officials advise citizens to stay off the roads and to not attempt to drive through flood waters.
