CofC Community Advisory: Tropical Storm Elsa

By | July 6, 2021

Dear Campus Community,

Be advised that the National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the Charleston area. A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible somewhere within this area within the next 48 hours.

Tropical Storm Elsa will move just offshore of the Florida west coast through tonight then move across eastern portions of Georgia and South Carolina Wednesday into Thursday while weakening. There is an increasing potential for flash flooding, gusty winds to tropical storm force, isolated tornadoes and dangerous rip currents across much of Southeast South Carolina and Southeast Georgia, including the adjacent coastal waters as the center of Elsa passes through the region.

At this time the College remains on its normal operating schedule and will continue to closely monitor the storm’s forecasted path. Any adjustments to the College’s academic and business schedules would be communicated to the campus community through College email and the Cougar Alert Emergency Notification System.

Please monitor local weather stations and the National Weather Service for the latest updates.

Sincerely,

CofC Emergency Management Team
