The following update was sent to the campus community on July 7, 2021.
Dear Students and Families:
Last week, the College’s COVID-19 Leadership Team issued general guidelines regarding its COVID-19 plans and policies for the summer and fall semesters, which took effect Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
There were a few questions from students and families regarding requirements around vaccines and testing.
In effort to address some of those questions, the College of Charleston would like to clarify a couple items:
- As has always been the case, students are not required to be vaccinated in order to enroll or attend the College of Charleston or participate in any campus activities.
- Please Note: the College of Charleston continues to strongly encourage all students to get vaccinated in order to assist in the College’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
- For those students who are not vaccinated, they will not be required to participate in monthly testing protocols. However, given the social nature and high density of a college campus, public health experts strongly encourage monthly testing for those individuals, at a minimum. The College will offer voluntary weekly testing on campus to help facilitate this effort.
While the pandemic has certainly slowed in the United States, allowing the country to open up in many ways as before, the negative impact, both real and potential, of COVID-19 has not disappeared. The College of Charleston will continue to implement a wide range of strategies in order to ensure and protect the health and safety of our campus community, while also adhering to state law and state public health guidance.
Sincerely,
CofC COVID-19 Leadership Team
