Message from the President: Update on Refunds Related to Campus Housing, Parking and Meal Plan Fees

By | April 1, 2020

President Andrew Hsu sent the following message to students and families on April 1, 2020:

Dear Students and Families:

Thank you for your patience as the College of Charleston has developed the process by which we will refund students for charges related to on-campus housing, parking and meal plan fees.

I am pleased to announce that refunds will be issued and will be calculated based on a prorated daily rate beginning the week after spring break when the College moved to online instruction. Refunds will be processed by the College over the next two weeks and will be posted to your MyCharleston account. This policy was developed in collaboration with the other state public higher education institutions and the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Refunds will look different for each student depending on one’s financial arrangement with the College of Charleston. Additional guidance includes:
· Only students who remain enrolled for the remainder of the semester are eligible for a refund. The suspension of in-person instruction does not change the student’s enrollment status for billing, financial aid and/or reporting purposes.
· Students who were granted an exemption to be allowed to remain on campus for the remainder of the semester will not be eligible for a housing or meal plan refund.
· Refunds will first be applied to any remaining current charges.

Thank you again for your patience as we navigate these complex new challenges presented by the global spread of COVID-19. Please stay safe and healthy. I look forward to the day when we all return to campus, and our community of scholars can continue our learning together.

Sincerely,

Andrew
