At this time, the College of Charleston emergency management team continues to closely monitor Hurricane Irma and its potential adverse effects on the Lowcountry for Monday, September 11.
In a perfect scenario, the College would reopen campus on Wednesday afternoon for students and resume its normal classroom schedule on Thursday, September 14.
However, due to the expected above average high tides on Monday, made more problematic by Hurricane Irma’s effects (possible power outages, heavy rains, flash flooding and high winds), the College will need to assess its facilities after tomorrow’s high tide (approximately 1:00 p.m.) before finalizing its schedule to reopen.
We appreciate your patience throughout this process. Even though Hurricane Irma has continued a more westerly track, there is still the very real possibility of a negative impact on Charleston.
The College’s emergency management team will send an update on Monday afternoon regarding the College’s schedule for reopening once its facilities assessment is completed.
In the meantime, please continue to monitor local media outlets as well as your College of Charleston email and the College’s emergency website (emergency.cofc.edu).
