CAMPUS ADVISORY: Tropical Storm Update #2

By | September 15, 2024
Dear Campus Community,
The College of Charleston remains on a normal operating schedule for Monday, Sept. 16.
Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 is predicted to make landfall around McClellanville, S.C., on Monday around noon or by early afternoon Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Charleston County and Charleston Harbor until Monday morning. A Tropical Storm Warning also is in effect for inland and tidal Berkeley County.
Employees who have childcare issues due to Charleston County schools moving to e-learning for Monday should coordinate with their supervisors regarding work schedules for Monday. All students and employees should exercise caution traveling to campus. Employees should coordinate with their supervisors on alternate work arrangements, if necessary. Faculty should be flexible with students who may have issues getting to campus due to weather conditions.
Please stay tuned to local news and monitor the latest updates from the National Weather Service. The city’s TideEye app is a valuable resource for tracking tide levels and road closures due to flooding. The attached weather briefing from City of Charleston Emergency Management provides additional details on possible weather conditions for Monday.
Everyone should have a personal safety plan and be prepared for potential events such as power outages, flooding and downed tree limbs. Do not attempt to drive through high flood waters. Follow directions from law enforcement, emergency responders and College officials.
For emergencies on or off campus, dial 911. To contact CofC Public Safety for non-emergencies, dial 843.953.5609.
Please continue to monitor CofC email or emergency.charleston.edu for any additional updates.
Sincerely,
