College Cancels Classes for Monday (update 4 p.m. on October 4)

By | October 4, 2015

Campus community,

Because of the weekend’s severe weather conditions and subsequent cleanup/recovery efforts taking place both downtown and across the Lowcountry, the College of Charleston is closing campus tonight, Sunday, October 4, and has cancelled classes for Monday, October 5.

This cancellation affects all classes, labs, meetings and other activities scheduled at the downtown campus (including Harbor Walk and Avery Research Center), North Campus, Patriot’s Point, Grice Marine Lab and the Lowcountry Graduate Center.

The College will resume its normal operations and class schedule on Tuesday, October 6.

Students will be notified on Tuesday, October 6, regarding the use of the previously scheduled storm days for the 2015 fall semester. Students are advised to plan for the possibility that the College will use both the October 10 and December 8 storm days, as noted on the fall 2015 academic calendar at http://registrar.cofc.edu/pdf/ac-2015fall.pdf.

Essential employees from areas such as public safety, physical plant, residence hall and food service should report to work as previously scheduled.

In order for the College to properly assess campus facilities and possible storm damage, supervisors may request certain personnel to report to campus on Monday. Nonessential employees must have guidance from their supervisor to return to work on Monday.

All residence halls remain open. Dining services will operate on a normal schedule for Monday. If possible, the Stern Student Center and campus recreation facilities will be open as well. Please refer to the Student Affairs website for updates: http://studentaffairs.cofc.edu. Addlestone Library hours will be posted on http://library.cofc.edu and social media.

The College will continue to closely monitor weather conditions throughout the day/evening and will inform you if there are any additional changes to the College’s class schedule and hours of operation. Any updates will be posted to emergency.cofc.edu and communicated through the Cougar Alert system.

Anyone needing assistance should contact the Department of Public Safety at 843.953.5611 (emergency) or 843.953.5609 (non-emergency).

As before, we urge the entire CofC community to follow the National Weather Service and local media for any possible changes in weather and updates on countywide road closures.
