Dear Campus Community:
You may have recently received a Cougar Alert, which indicated that you and all our other employees and students should shelter in place until further notice. Another emergency alert from the Charleston County Consolidated 911 Center also has said that employees and students in many portions of our campus should shelter in place.
Effective immediately, and through 5:00 p.m. today, all classes in the following College of Charleston buildings are cancelled:
- Beatty Center
- JC Long Building
- Tate Center
- School of Education, Health, and Human Performance Building (Wentworth St.)
- Thaddeus Street Education Center
- Craig Hall
Classes in these buildings will resume at 5:00 p.m. today.
These buildings are closed until further notice. Faculty, staff, and students may reenter these buildings only after security personnel give permission to do so. We anticipate these six buildings will reopen before 5:00 p.m. If there is any delay in reopening these buildings, we will advise you via email and Cougar Alert.
Effective immediately, all classes on campus in other buildings will be held as scheduled. The ordinary business of the College of Charleston should continue in all other buildings.
Students should confer with faculty to see how lost class time will be made up. Faculty should accommodate reasonable requests from students who have had their days disrupted by the events surrounding this bomb threat.
I understand the considerable inconvenience associated with today’s events. Please remember that our first priority is seeing to the safety and security of all members of our campus community.
Sincerely,
Glenn F. McConnell ’69
President
